Planning a campaign with CiviCampaign

Before you create a campaign, review how CiviCampaign can support your organisation’s work and consider what your campaign needs.

Key concepts

Your organisation will likely have its own campaign strategies and processes. You can use CiviCampaign alongside your existing methods to streamline and automate certain processes.

Campaign goals and revenue

Define and document the campaign’s concrete goals and the funds you hope to raise, if applicable. Record this information in the campaign so you can use reports to analyze its effectiveness at its conclusion.

Planning your campaign activities

As you plan your strategy and identify your target audience, determine which activities and information you can record within CiviCRM. Connect everything you record to the campaign so you can track campaign efforts and individuals’ activities. This allows you to evaluate the effectiveness of your activities, strategies and outreach efforts both periodically and overall.

Key questions

Answer these questions for your organisation or a specific campaign:

  • Who is your target audience, and how will you reach them? The audience for your campaign activities may differ from the audience you are trying to reach with the campaign itself. Understanding your target audience will help you choose strategies and communication activities to achieve your campaign goals.
  • What activities and strategies, such as events and mailings, will be associated with this campaign?
  • How will you gather data during the campaign (e.g. surveys, petitions, event registrations), and who will be responsible for entering the data into CiviCRM?
  • What reports will be useful for monitoring progress and evaluating the campaign at its conclusion?
